Education Resources

Polk County Conservation Board offers nature programming for preschools, elementary, middle, and high schools, church groups, scout groups, civic groups, etc. Naturalists will come to your site to provide programming or meet your group at a Polk County park. Most programs are hands-on and interactive.

Scheduling a Program

To schedule a program, please open and download the Program Request Form, complete and email it to or call Patrice Petersen-Keys at (515)323-5359. Our schedule fills up quickly in the fall and spring, so schedule early. We ask that you call at least one week in advance prior to your preferred program time.

Program Fees

Programs offered to for-profit organizations will have a fee of $1/person or $25 minimum charge. All other programs are offered free of charge, however donations are welcome.

Field Trip Opportunities

Polk County Conservation is putting more emphasis on getting students outdoors. We have developed theme based field trips. These field trips may have two or more naturalists or volunteers leading the programs.

High School Programs

Polk County Conservation has actively been teaching conservation education to the citizens of Polk County for over 20 years. Unfortunately, most high school educators are unaware of the incredible opportunities we can provide for your students.

Preschool Programs

Polk County Conservation offers a variety of programs designed specifically for young children. Programs are offered to youth four years old and older.
